As one of a total of four double locomotives of type D 311, this locomotive was put into service by the German Wehrmacht in 1942 as D 311.04. It was intended for use with the "Heavy Gustav 2" gun. However, this gun was not completed, so the locomotive was used in the Calais area.
In September 1944, the locomotive ran aground on Dutch territory and was claimed by the Dutch State Railways as spoils of war. The attempt to make the locomotive roadworthy again failed due to missing parts. After the mediation of a Haarlem scrap dealer, the locomotive returned to Germany, where it entered service in 1950/51 as V 188 002 and was still in service in the Franconian region until 1972.
