The Prussian steam locomotive type G 8.1, of which almost 5,000 were built, with an output of 1,260 hp and a top speed of 55 km/h, was mainly used for freight train and heavy shunting services.
After the First World War, the Italian State Railways received 45 locomotives as reparations and classified them as Group 460 in its locomotive fleet.
